Marriage

This post is dedicated to my brother and sister in law. I was honoured to be asked to do a reading at the church for their wedding yesterday. I had to do something special, so I wrote something for them, which I thought I’d share with you all. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Marriage.

In definition, an agreement between two people, who have decided that beyond the lust and excitement of falling in love, that they will make a promise to share their lives, and create a world of happiness together, for as long as their lives allow.
There are around 7 billion people on this earth. In an average lifetime you are thought to meet around 10,000 of them.

But in marriage you’ve chosen this one person out of all those tens of thousands you have met (and those you haven’t) to be your significant other, your partner, your soul mate.

To share with, to trust, to care for, to make mistakes with and to learn from them together.

You can always be yourself around them, because they love you for who you are. Both in your successes and your failings.

That alone makes you stronger, stronger as an individual and stronger as a couple.

The magic you’ve been searching for up until this point, is standing right before you.

It is in the journey that you have chosen to embark upon together, and you both get to decide where you go, and what adventures you have along the way.

When you are soaring at your highest and when you hit your lowest low. They are there, with support, love and encouragement.

When you experience storms, they experience them too. When you achieve your goals, they share in your success. Although you are individuals, you live your lives together, as one.

You develop a sixth sense about the other. You sense when something is wrong and when their excitement is too much to bear.

They know exactly how to make you smile and laugh, even when the world seems at its worst.

There is no need for secrets, they know more about you than anyone else in the world.

What you share is immeasurable, beyond price, beyond words.

We all know life can be unpredictable, challenging and scary. But it is also surprising, beautiful and precious.

Marriage is about about finding the one person you can’t live without, and waking up everyday feeling brave, that together you can take on the world, and win.
